Undoubtedly the strangest ship ever built for any navy, the USS Bagley was designed to patrol Lake Tahonomondo, a permanently dry salt lake in Death Valley.
400ft long from stem to stern, with enormous wheels and a prominent circular radio antenna, she was a magnificent sight steaming across the lake, where she can still be seen patrolling today.

It is not well known that the tiny principality of Slobervia sided with the Germans in World War I.
Here is the their highly innovative Steam Submarine. It overcame the range limitations of the primitive electric submersibles of the time. Its only flaw was its inability to submerge below the level of the funnels. Consequently, it was never a great success.
The Slobervians were nothing if not plucky, and here you see them throwing washing at the enemy, after discovering the deck guns were rusted solid.
